how we make our fused glass characters

All of our glass animal figures and characters begin their lives in our marvellous glass fusing studio in Essex. Katie hand-cuts each individual base shape from clear glass before building the design with colourful glass pieces.

We use a mixture of glass fragments, stringers, and frits to give each character or animal its own distinctive look. Some designs even include additional details, like glitter glass, wire accents, and shimmering dichroic glass. Just take a look at the delicate wire details of our glass sheep decoration, or the shimmering pink dichroic glass horn and mane of our glass unicorn ornament.

Once assembled, each piece is fired in the kiln at a piping hot temperature. This is where the layers fuse together into one. Every design is handmade here at molten wonky, so no two glass characters are ever exactly the same. And that’s part of their unique charm!
